A San Antonio Criminal Defense Attorney Who Has Stood in Every Corner of the Courtroom

Jim Wheat earned his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in 1988 and his law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law, one of San Antonio's most respected law schools. He was licensed to practice in Texas in 1992 and has spent the last three decades building a practice rooted in this community.

Before founding his defense practice, Jim served as a prosecutor in the Bexar County District Attorney's Office and as an Associate Judge of the 289th District Court. That experience from both the prosecution table and the bench is rare. Most defense attorneys have only ever sat on one side. Jim has sat at all three.

Jim is one of a small number of attorneys in Texas to hold board certification in criminal law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is admitted to practice in state courts and in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. His work has been recognized nationally, appearing as a legal commentator on National Geographic's Gangland, Oxygen's Snapped, and Fox's America's Most Wanted.

I spent years learning how the system works from the inside. Every decision I make for a client is shaped by what I know from the other side of that table.
